Welcome > President Renu Khator

University of Houston
August 2023
Dear Students,
It is my sincere pleasure and honor to welcome you to the University of Houston. Whether you are a new or returning student, you are welcome, and I’m excited to have you as a part of the Cougar family.
Here, you will form lifelong friendships, gain knowledge that will last a lifetime and become prepared for a rewarding and fruitful career. At UH, student success is our top priority. We’ve set a bold vision to become a top 50 public university, and please know you are the driving force behind this ambitious goal. Behind every service we provide, every building we construct, every professor we hire and every vision we set lies one common purpose - your success.
This is an exciting time to be a Cougar. Moreover, at UH, we’re embracing some of society’s biggest challenges - from health care to the energy transition, rapid business change to scientific innovations - to move our communities and nations forward. These endeavors connect you, our students, with the opportunity to think critically and innovate, and the knowledge and experience to set a bold course for your future.
We’ve fostered a supportive and inclusive environment to help you reach your academic goals and thrive while you’re here. If you choose to live on campus, you will find that your living space is an extension of your learning space. Our residence halls are home to “resident faculty,” tutoring centers and classrooms - we want to make sure you get the support you need, day or night. In addition, we offer numerous mental health, wellness and support services; a dynamic student center and recreation facility; captivating arts; winning sports teams and much more to enrich your college experience. I encourage you to join any of our more than 500 UH student organizations. Being active in an organization can give you meaningful connections and improve your chances of graduating on time.
I am so excited that you have chosen the University of Houston, and I am happy to have you here. I look forward to seeing you wearing your Cougar Red - especially on Fridays, studying in the student center and cheering on our Coogs in the stands this year. Welcome!
Go Coogs!
