College of Education > Department of Psychological, Health, and Learning Sciences > Human Development and Family Studies, B.S./Special Populations, M.Ed. - Dual Degree Program
For students who want to pursue a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Human Development & Family Studies and earn a Master of Education (M.Ed.) in Special Populations, the dual degree program offers an accelerated degree program to earn both in five years with a certification or specialization. The dual degree program provides a clear and concise path toward accelerated academic goals and enables students to begin concentrated work on a professional focus related to working with special populations during the final year of their B.S. degree plan. The Dual Degree program provides a broadly based study of the intellectual, emotional, social, and moral development of individuals and families. Graduates of this program are prepared for the growing field of Disability Support across the lifespan. Graduates have an in-depth preparation to address complex and emerging disability related needs for individuals of all ages. This dual degree program prepares graduates to be specialists in both the public and private sectors in developing, implementing, and evaluating programs and policies for improved supports for individuals with disabilities.
Students admitted to the B.S. program must complete four semesters of the B.S. degree program and obtain an overall UH 3.0 cumulative GPA or greater to be eligible to apply to the dual degree program. This requirement will be confirmed after the fourth semester or 63 credit hours.
Students who are not eligible at any point for the Dual Degree Program for failure to maintain GPA requirements may continue and complete a UH Bachelor’s Degree in Human Development and Family Studies .
