The Environmental Science Certificate offered by the Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences is available to both graduate students and non-degree seeking professionals. The need for environmental science is increasing due to global climate change, population growth, anthropogenic activities, degrading natural resources and ecosystems.

Admission Requirements
This certificate program can be taken by students who are already admitted into a Master’s or PhD program in the department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences, or by students who intend to solely obtain the certificate. In this latter case, the admission requirements are as follows: - Bachelor’s degree in earth science or a related discipline of physical science or engineering
- A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 in the last 60 hours of coursework
- Official transcripts
Note: the GRE is not required for admission Certificate Requirements
Credit hours required for this Certificate: 15.0 Core Courses
Four core courses (12 credit hours) selected from the following list or approved substitutions, including at least one course from each of the three core categories: Core Category 1: Atmospheric Science
Core Category 3: Geophysics
Elective Course
- One elective course to be chosen with the approval of the Graduate Chair Credit Hours: 3.0
