Applied Behavior Analysis Minor

College of Education  > Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Studies  > Applied Behavior Analysis Minor

The minor in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is designed for students who wish to better understand the scientific application of behavioral principles to socially significant behaviors for children diagnosed with autism and individuals with developmental or behavioral disabilities. The purpose of the minor is to prepare students for professional roles in human service, clinic, or school settings. The ABA minor provides the relevant coursework required to sit for the Board-Certified Assistant Behavior Analyst® (BCaBA®) certification. To qualify to sit for the BCaBA® examination, students must independently complete the supervised experience hours required by the Behavior Analysis Certification Board (BACB).

Degree Requirements

Six hours must be in residence. Students must earn a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA and no more than one “C” in all courses attempted in the minor at the University of Houston.

Additional Program Notes

Certification

Although the minor provides required coursework, to qualify to sit for the BCaBA® examination, students must independently complete the supervised experience hours required by the Behavior Analysis Certification Board (BACB). Supervised experience requires 1,300 hours of clinical practice under the supervision of a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (as of 2023). For more information, see https://www.bacb.com/. Please note that the BACB periodically adjusts their requirements for certification
